Medical Guardian Held Fall Prevention Safety Seminar

Medical Guardian, a leading national provider of emergency alert systems, held a fall prevention safety seminar on July 5th, 2011 to help extend its growing life safety program to all senior citizens in the Philadelphia area.

PHILADELPHIA, PA, August 15, 2011 /Seniors PR News/ -- Medical Guardian, a leading national provider of medical alert systems, held a fall prevention safety seminar on July 5th, 2011 to help extend its growing safety program to all senior citizens in the Philadelphia area. According to the National Safety Council, falls are the most common cause of injury among American adults age 65 and over and taking measures to reduce those occurrences can often make all the difference between living independently at home and going into assisted living.

The seminar was held at Girasole restaurant, located on Pine Street in Philadelphia, PA. The session was led by health promotion officers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, health visitors, care workers, environmental health officers and voluntary agencies. Geoff Gross, President of Medical Guardian, briefly shared with local seniors valuable information on health and medical emergency alert systems and inspired participants to make initial changes towards their overall health goals in order to prevent seniors from falling. Health professionals discussed great ideas to use and develop such as reviewing your medications with your doctor on a regular basis and informing them if any medications have side effects that can cause dizziness or even make you lightheaded. Also, installing grab bars in senior bathrooms was another important tip because most falls happen while coming in or out of the shower and by having a mat or non-slip strips in the tub will help prevent the chances of a fall.

Sharon Stock, a health care specialist who has given helpful tips on eating healthier was mentioned saying, "Poor nutrition can contribute to feelings of weakness and lethargy that discourage them from leading an active, healthy lifestyle."

Chef Angela Iovino, owner of Girasole restaurant, served healthy nutritional hors d'oeuvres to attendees and speakers, serving fish, poultry and lean meats which are all good sources of protein. Mr. Gross announced that he wanted to support the local seniors to try different types of healthy nutritional meals so that seniors can start off on a health kick supporting elders to become more active which will then decrease the chances of a fall. He ended the session by explaining, "We are a national company but we strive to guide and protect our community surrounding our headquarters in Philadelphia. Before seniors can modify the activities and behaviors they partake in, they must be educated on best practices to reduce risk of falling and improve the chance of long term health."

Still today, Medical Guardian provides seniors with a reliable and affordable medical alarm system which allows them to live independently at their home. Its top rated personal senior monitor uses the latest, state of the art technology to provide seniors with exceptional performance and value.
