New Shared Living Meets the Needs of Gay Seniors

Boston Residence Opens its Doors to GLBTs and Friends

MELROSE, MA, February 23, 2009 /Seniors PR News/ -- A new concept in senior living is making it easier for gay seniors and their friends to grow "old and gay" gracefully. Bellevue Senior Living has transformed a historic manor home on the desirable Bellevue Avenue in Melrose into a shared single-family residence actively welcoming GLBT seniors. Straight seniors are welcome, too.

The National Gay and Lesbian Taskforce estimates that there are more than 3 million gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans over age 65, and that number is expected to double by 2030. While the population has been booming, there are limited options other than downsizing to a condo or being forced to assimilate into a senior living facility where some have experienced discrimination and forced back into the closet. Bellevue Manor is the first of its kind to provide gay seniors with the opportunity to maintain their current lifestyle with like-minded individuals in a spacious single-family home with the added convenience of support services.

"Senior living doesn't have to mean downsizing or shutting yourself into a condo," said Arnold Silva, the innovator behind Bellevue Senior Living. "Many seniors would like to enjoy living in a spacious elegant property yet be able to travel without worrying about frozen pipes and other emergencies. Whether they are looking for a year-round residence that gives them the freedom to travel or a vacation home, Bellevue Manor was created to give gay seniors and their friends the opportunity to live their freedom years to the fullest."

Situated on a double lot on what Boston Magazine has named the best street to live on, Bellevue Manor of Boston features elegant single-home living for a maximum of four residents in the desirable Bellevue Golf Club area of Melrose. Buyers can choose a one- or two-bedroom suite or even a floor-through 2 bedroom apartment and share the beautifully-appointed common areas and garden. Units range from $249,000 to $599,000. The property also offers access to optional services, such as meal service, transportation, activities, outings and housekeeping. Any resident who wishes to live in a gay-friendly environment is welcome. Development plans will soon be underway in other regions.
