Ron Kauffman, author and expert on issues of aging and caregiving for Alzheimer's patients is a featured speaker during Alzheimer's Awareness Week in south Florida

West Palm Beach, Florida November 18, 2008 - "Successful aging is dependent upon many factors," says Ron Kauffman, "... from a healthy diet and exercise, to a moderate lifestyle that includes staying mentally active and socially engaged."

JUPITER, FL, November 19, 2008 /Seniors PR News/ -- With more than 5-million Americans diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and new patients being diagnosed every 71-seconds, there is much we can and must do to enjoy our golden years. "Successful aging is dependent upon so many factors," says Ron Kauffman, "including everything form a healthy diet, exercise, and stress management to a moderate lifestyle that includes staying mentally active and socially engaged - and it helps to be a little bit lucky."

Kauffman was a featured speaker at the Mae Volen Senior Center in Boca Raton, FL during Alzheimer's awareness week, where he addressed a group comprised of adult children, family caregivers and seniors.

His talk was based on his successful new book, "Caring for a Loved One with Alzheimer's Disease." Combining his knowledge and expertise about aging issues with his own personal story as a care giver for his mother, who continues her battle with Alzheimer's disease, Kauffman informed, educated and entertained his audience.

Underneath his personal humor were many key facts about Alzheimer's disease as well as suggestions for dealing with a parent or spouse with memory loss, managing caregiver stress, and a series of tips ranging from what to have as part of an emergency hospitalization information list to key legal and financial steps every family should know and take as part of the caring process.

The concept of planning ahead was a key element of Ron Kauffman's presentation, as he stated that, "We're all living longer, and aging is the key factor in determining the likelihood of Alzheimer's disease impacting you or someone in your family. One of every two people over the age of 85 is statistically likely to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's or another form of dementia or cognitive impairment." He went on to say, "The challenges facing caregivers include the fact that almost 66% of Alzheimer's care providers suffer physical and/or mental stress and debilitation, and 40% of the caregivers for an Alzheimer's family member predecease their loved one because of the stress and workload of caring for an Alzheimer's patient."

"Caring for a Loved One with Alzheimer's Disease," addresses many of the questions most caregivers have and provides clear answers as well as suggestions for dealing with your loved one as the disease progresses, as well as guidelines for handling their own caregiver stress and much more.
