Utilities Are Ripping You Off
Utilities are blatantly taking advantage of not only senior citizens but all of their customers. Senior 2 Senior has an answer.
/24-7PressRelease.com/ - January 19, 2005 - Imagine you have just finished lunch at your favorite greasy spoon and you are presented your bill. This time, before just paying as usual, you decide to look at it item by item.
At the top is a charge for the hamburger deluxe you ordered. Following that is a charge for the soft drink. Following that you expect to see the sales tax then the total.
But wait, the bill contains three more charges. The first reads customer charge and is followed by an amount. The next reads utility fee and is followed by a charge and the third reads deferred hamburger charge and it too is followed by a charge.
When you ask the cashier what are these extra charges, she blithely says the customer charge is a flat fee that reimburses the restaurant for their bookkeeping costs, postage, ordering expenses and other administrative type charges.
The utility fee is based on the total monthly billing consisting of items like gross receipts tax, business license, and any other taxes imposed by the city and county.
The deferred hamburger charge is nothing more than the restaurant being reimbursed for their meat, bun, potato and soft drink costs.
She then looks you square in the eye and asks, "Is there something wrong?"
I don't have to ask the obvious question because you wouldn't eat there again. You would vote with your feet and find a restaurant that doesn't impose these charges.
Unfortunately you can't just walk away from your electric, telephone and cell phone bills. The above three charges are taken from my bills. I did not list the federal universal service charge, service charge, federal cost recovery programs charge, state gross receipts recovery charge, supplier federal universal service fee and several others that you will find on your bills depending where you live and what entity is providing your utilities.

As a united voice, we have clout. Let's use it to stop being taken advantage of. After all, taxation with representation is horrendous by itself but couple it with taxation by fiat and it is unbearable.
